DETROIT— December 17, 2018
On Saturday, December 15th, several 36th District Court employees, along with Judge David A. Perkins, volunteered their time at Focus: HOPE to help those in need during the holiday season. The event was organized by the Court’s Public Service Committee and was the latest in a series of outreach events that have recently included Hug Detroit Day and the Motor City Makeover.
Focus: HOPE is a non-profit agency located in Detroit which provides services to citizens in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw Counties. One such service is “Food Justice” - a Commodity Supplemental Food Program. This initiative provides 44,000 low-income seniors with monthly food packages to help ensure that their basic needs are met.
The Public Service Committee continued its mission of “proudly serving others” by arriving bright and early to spend the morning packing hundreds of boxes for those who would otherwise go without nourishment. The efforts of our volunteers during this busy time of year were much appreciated.
The Court’s commitment to the community extends outside of the Courthouse, and many new opportunities to give back are in development for 2019.
