After completing law school, Judge Bryant-Weekes committed three
(3) years of her career to providing legal services to the
poor. During this time, she serviced the community through
Wayne County Neighborhood Legal Services, Pittsburgh Legal
Services and Northeast Ohio Legal Services. While working
through these agencies, she handled cases involving consumer
protection issues, quality of life issues for senior citizens,
bankruptcy, civil rights and other general legal issues.
In 1995 Judge Bryant-Weekes joined the City of Detroitís Law
Department as Assistant Corporation Counsel in its Labor and
Employment Law Division. While employed with the City of
Detroit Law Department, she represented the City of Detroit
(18,000 employees, 42 Labor Unions and 48 municipal departments)
in labor arbitrations, trial board hearings, civil service
hearings, Michigan Employment Relations Commission hearings,
contract negotiations and civil litigation.
In 2001, she briefly joined the firm of Miller Cohen, PLC, as an
Associate Attorney representing labor unions until her
appointment by the Board of Police Commissioners to serve as the
Director of Personnel for the Detroit Police Department.
After leaving the Police Department in 2005 Judge Bryant-Weekes
returned to private practice specializing in Labor and
Employment and Family Law. While in private practice, in 2005
and previously, she served as defense mediator for the City of
Detroit and as a Referee for the Oakland County Circuit Court
Personal Protection Order Division. She also served as an

In 2006 Judge Bryant-Weekes was appointed by Mayor Kilpatrick to
serve as a Commissioner on the City of Detroitís Civil Service
Judge Bryant-Weekes has been a member of The Greater Emmanuel
Institutional Church of God in Christ since 1995, where she
serves on the Advisory Board and Ministerial Staff, and a life
long member of The Church of God in Christ, Inc. She is
affiliated with and an active member in several civic,
community, religious and professional organizations including:
The State Bar of Michigan, The Association of Black Judges of
Michigan, The Wolverine Bar Association, The District and
Municipal Judges Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Judge Bryant-Weekesí commitment to community and the citizens of
the City of Detroit is evident in her passion for and advocacy
on behalf of protection of the rights of all citizens. As a
member of the 36th District Court bench, Judge Bryant-Weekes is
committed to always maintaining the integrity of the bench, to
serving citizens with respect and dignity, and to running an
organized and timely courtroom.
She is the wife of Roger Weekes and mother to Ayana and Marcus.
