Honorable Joseph N. Baltimore has served as a Judge for the 36th District
Court since March 1988; he was Chief Judge from October 1995
to December 1999.
He is a Graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy
School of Law, J.D. June, 1967; Howard University, Washington
D.C., B.A., 1963.
Judge Baltimore was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, Supreme Court of Michigan and United States
District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, February 1969;
U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit, 1978; United States Supreme
Court, 1974.

He was a partner in the Law Firm of Conyers, Anderson, Brown, Wahls & Baltimore, P.C. February 1969 thru March 1979. He engaged
in the general practice of law, handling civil and criminal litigation. The major area of expertise was worker's compensation,
social security, probate, and juvenile matters. From February 1979 thru March 1988, he was appointed as Supervising Assistant
Corporation Counsel, City of Detroit. He specialized in municipal
land use, zoning, condemnation and ordinance enforcement.
His professional memberships includes the State Bar of Michigan, Wolverine Bar Association, Black Judges
of Michigan, Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, Michigan
District Judges, Michigan Judicial Institute. His community
involvement includes memberships in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Howard University Alumni Association, Trade Union Leadership
Council. He is a life member of the NAACP.
Judge Baltimore is married to Carolyn T. Baltimore
and has two adult sons, Jason and Russell. |
