Upon
graduation, Chief Magistrate Lockhart moved on to private practice
where his focus was on family law, particularly domestic
violence. In this role he was responsible for
representing victims of domestic violence referred to him by
the Women's Justice Center. In 1985, he took the helm of
Legal Assistance of St. Clair County in Port Huron, and from
there moved on to the law firm of Flanigan, Monaghan &
Traver. However, his most significant contributions have
been in the area of Real Estate and Criminal Law.
Magistrate Lockhart has spent the past several years in
private practice, where his focus was on eviction work and
criminal defense cases.

Lockhart's career has varied from being a Staff Attorney for
the Juvenile Defenders' Office to serving as a member of the
Handgun Intervention Program (HIP) to mentor in the Partners
Against Crime (PAC) Program here at the Court.
Furthermore,
he has been strongly involved in community and youth programs
aimed at the betterment of the city, serving as past president
of the East English Village Community Association and as
volunteer with Detroit Summer, a non-profit organization that
coordinates summer work projects for youth in Detroit.
