What forms and fees are required to start an Abandoned Vehicle case?

*TR52P form (obtained from the Secretary of State)

*$75.00 filing fee

*$40.00 bond

*All accrued towing and storage fees or a receipt from the towing company showing payment of fees. The Court is not responsible for obtaining information regarding towing and storage fees; that is the sole responsibility of the Petitioner/Vehicle Owner.

Where is my vehicle being stored?

The location of the towing company is located on the Notice of Abandoned Vehicle you received from the Michigan Secretary of State.

If my vehicle was towed due to unpaid parking tickets may I file a Petition for Abandoned Vehicle?

No, you must contact the Parking Violations Bureau.

Is there a time limit to file my Petition for Abandoned Vehicle at the Court?

Yes, you must file your petition within 20 calendar days from the date on the Notice of Abandoned Vehicle.

I lost or did not receive my Notice of Abandoned Vehicle from the Secretary of State, may I still file a Petition for Abandoned Vehicle to dispute the towing and/or storage fees?

Yes, you may file a Petition Regarding Impoundment of Motor Vehicle or Seizure of Motorcycle (DC90) along with the proper fees.
